Patriot dedicates a fire rehab unit
Firefighters in Patriot contracted communities will get much-needed relief at a fire or hazardous material incident.
Patriot Ambulance converted and modified a 2003 box ambulance into a fire scene rehab unit. The unit is equipped with water, ice, Gatorade, tents, folding chairs, and misting fans during the summer.
In the winter, the vehicle will have blankets, portable heaters and hot chocolate to keep the firefighters warm. An ambulance supervisor will man the rehab unit, working in conjunction with the commanding fire officer at the scene.
This is the first unit Patriot Ambulance has remodeled to help firefighters keep hydrated and rested at a fire.
“This is a tremendous help for us because we go through extreme weather conditions,” said Capt. James Loffredo, who is the safety officer for the Lawrence Fire Department.
